Community Projects

The Town of Pulaski, in partnership with many State and Federal Agencies, is involved in projects to improve our community. These projects are currently in progress:

EPA Brownfields Program

EPA's Brownfields Program empowers states, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. A brownfield site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.

Under multiple laws, EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through four competitive grant programs: assessment grants, revolving loan fund grants, cleanup grants, and job training grants. Additionally, funding support is provided to state and tribal response programs through a separate mechanism.

Calfee Training School Project

The Calfee Training School was originally built in the late 19th century as an institution for educating African American children in Pulaski. Along with the TG Howard Center which is adjacent to the school property, both have sat vacant for the last several years.

The Calfee Training School Project was first established in early 2018 by several individuals and organizations who saw an opportunity to bring the old Calfee Training School back to life by renovating it to meet Pulaski County's dire need for childcare services. At the same time, restoration of the school would provide an opportunity to reclaim the history of the institution and community.

The project plans to bring together former students and employees of the school along with the public to brainstorm ideas on how to continue the legacy of the institution while also providing a place where some of the most pressing needs of our community can be addressed.

Check out the Calfee Training School Project Facebook page for regular educational and informational updates on their activities and progress on renovating the historic center.
