Color Me Cameron Runs into Pulaski

Color Me Cameron 5k Back in Pulaski
Posted on 04/05/2019
Tomorrow morning the Town of Pulaski will play host to an event called a color run, a 5k race in which the runners are blasted with an assortment of colored powders while they make their way through the course. The preferred gear to wear to a color run is all white, that way you maximize your color coverage during the event. But this run isn’t happening just because. It’s being held for the 7th year in a row in support of a young man named Cameron Fitzwater, a former senior of Pulaski County High School.

Cameron was tragically killed in a car accident on April 4th, 2012 while heading to work after school. But that was nowhere near the end of his story. Living on in the lives of thousands of people, his spirit and good nature have been an example to everyone who hears his story, and the Color Me Cameron 5k continues to spread his memory more and more every year.

There’s more to this event than getting blasted with color bombs though. Alongside the race, the Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship Foundation was also created to give other high school seniors a helping hand when they start their college search. The foundation awards four $1,000 scholarships annually to seniors of Pulaski County High School, easing the burden of paying for tuition wherever they may go.

Things will kick off early tomorrow morning, with on-site registration opening at 7 a.m. and running until 9 a.m. The race itself will begin at 9:30 a.m. after registration is closed and a short ceremony is held. Registration is $30 and kids 10 and under can participate for free if accompanied by a registered adult. If you’re unfamiliar with exactly how long a 5k is, it’s a little over 3 miles, so be sure to wear some comfortable shoes even if you’re walking instead of running!

This run promises to be a ton of fun; if you’re participating, you’re virtually guaranteed to look like a color bomb explosion after the race. And perhaps the best part of all is that you’ll be running or walking for more than exercise; you’ll be honoring Cameron and his memory, and inspire others to continue his spirit of adventure, love of life, and fun loving attitude.
