Pulaski's Parks Have Much on Offer

Pulaski Parks are Still Open for Fun!

Is it cold out? Absolutely. But even though it might not feel like it, it’s always a good time to get out and enjoy what Pulaski’s 800+ acres of parkland have to offer.

If you’d like to get out and enjoy the scenery around town, you can go out for a stroll at Jackson Park. Including a picturesque gazebo which is available for rent for weddings and other large events, this park has a beauty very much its own. This is also a popular spot for town events and festivals, like Depot Days or the Summer Park Concert Series.

If you’re looking for more exercise, you can head over to Dora Highway Park. With basketball and volleyball courts, children’s play equipment, and the Tad Steger Walking Trail, you’ll be able to get your exercise in while having fun and enjoying the trail that runs through the park. Or for more sporting opportunities, you can visit Cool Springs Park which has a wonderful field that can be rented for softball or baseball.

One other option for those looking to get their blood pumping is Macgill Park. Along with soccer fields and a baseball field, it also has a basketball court and tennis courts. And if you’re feeling brave, you can hit the skating section and practice your skills on a skateboard.

When it warms up, Gatewood Park will be the hot spot for fun in the water. Covering over 400 acres, Gatewood is the Pulaski destination for fishing, where you can expect to catch trophy size large mouth bass, along with catfish, crappie, bluegill, and small mouth bass. When your fishing arm gets tired, you can head back to land and make use of the ample hiking and picnicking areas. Gatewood also offers campsites along the shoreline. Last but not least, Pulaski also has the New River Trail State Park. While trails at other parks are great for walking, the 57 mile long trail running from downtown Pulaski to Galax is perfect for biking or horseback riding.

For more information regarding all of these parks and more, you can check out the main page detailing our parks here. We hope to see you out and enjoying the soon warming weather!
