New Behavioral Wing in the Works at LewisGale

LewisGale provides one of the many vital aspects for the town of Pulaski and the surrounding area, being the closest hospital for those living in and around the town. Their reputation is well deserved, and among numerous other commendations Anthem Virginia ranked LewisGale Pulaski 2nd out of 102 other hospitals in Virginia, Georgia and New York based on their level of quality care, patient safety and patient health outcomes.

And while their commitment to their patients continues to exceed expectations, they are always looking for new avenues through which to help patients on the road to recovery. This is why LewisGale chose to move forward in expanding their healthcare offerings with a new wing focused on behavioral health.

The behavioral health center hopes to provide more options for caregivers and patients concerning mental health. Pyschosis, affective disorders and behavioral management issues are some of the issues the behavioral center plans to tackle, among others. Sean Pressman, CEO of LewisGale Pulaski, said that the overall goal of the new center is to “meet the needs of the community. There’s an immense need in the area for mental health outreach, so our main objective is simply to help people be healthier”.

The center will be able to accommodate up to 16 patients in house at one time. One other boon to the new center is job creation; on top of providing work for the construction crews who build it, once in operation the center will employ anywhere from twenty five to thirty new medical professionals. Taking that into account with the already impressive pool of medical knowledge being put to use, LewisGale can look forward to being well equipped to handle almost any medical emergency.

The 8,000 square feet facility is planned to open in late summer this year and will feature individual therapy space, physician, nursing and staff offices, a dining area, and group and courtyard activity spaces.
