The Fine Arts Center for the New
River Valley will soon be celebrating their 41st year of championing
the arts in Pulaski. And to kick off that celebration, they are kicking off a
new program, Second Saturdays Art Café!
One of the primary goals of the
Fine Arts Center is to foster creativity in children, so the program will
include a lesson on line and pattern for the younger children. The program is
also offering calligraphy lessons for the older crowd, with both activities
starting in the afternoon. Calligraphy is an artistic form of writing, often
defined as the art of giving form to signs in a harmonious and skillful manner.
The program is free for children
that are preregistered at the center, and the calligraphy class has a cost of
$8. You will also receive a calligraphy pen for this payment, as well as
several working handouts to take home with you. The class is vital to learn the
skills behind calligraphy, but without practicing on your own time your skills
may not develop as well.
These classes will take place on
the second Saturday of every month for the next year, with a possibility of the
program extending if it performs well. I would try to get a spot for the
program as soon as possible, because this program will likely fill up very
quickly.
Even if you’re not interested in
the program, stop by the Arts Center to take a look at their newest exhibit for
Youth Art Month. It showcases some great art for younger children, along with
giving them a platform to show off their skills!
