Cracker Barrel is one of the hottest sit down restaurants in the United States, especially if you’re talking Southern comfort food. What makes it so popular? Cracker Barrel gives you the feeling of hopping in a time machine and going back a few decades to a time when a can of pop was 5 cents and pictures were still black and white. Perhaps that’s why the senior center was so happy to find out that they were taking a trip to the Cracker Barrel in Wytheville.
Yesterday morning the seniors loaded up in two vans and made the short trip down the road to Wytheville. After they got there, the seniors settled into their chairs and enjoyed some fresh coffee while they talked among themselves and caught up on what everyone did over the weekend. Cracker Barrel always has good food, so when the waiters and waitresses brought out the plates the seniors settled in for a delicious breakfast.
After everyone finished their meals, the seniors went back out into the gift shop to browse all of the goodies available. Before the trip back to Pulaski, some of the seniors wanted to stop by a local produce store in Wytheville to pick up a few things for back home.
The weekly trips the senior center take are not only a great way for the seniors to “see the sights”, they’re a great way for them to socialize. Seniors often don’t get a lot of chances to just talk with other people; if their significant other has passed on, more often than not they live alone. These trips provide a great chance for them to spend time with their peers, which is hugely beneficial mentally.
We look forward to photos from the senior center’s next outing, so be sure to stay tuned to our Facebook and our website for any updates on their travels around the New River Valley!
