Norwood Development will begin milling and paving Randolph Ave on Monday, April 3rd. Paving will be from Randolph & 6th up to corporate limits where Randolph Ave becomes Old Robinson Tract Rd. This milling and paving project is being paid for by a grant from VDOT.

West Main Street Update

The West Main project will not be completed for about another 2 weeks. There are 5 connections that must still be accomplished, including the courthouse, two of which require installation of vaults that have not been received. Unfortunately, the contractor, while hoping to be complete by the end of March, has a contract that gives him 150 days or until the end of April to complete.

New Traffic Patterns

Thank you to all who are adhering to the new traffic patterns. Today, March 22, the traffic lights on 3rd and Washington have been bagged. E. Main traffic is now being directed into a single lane heading east. A stop sign has been installed at the intersection of East Main and Duncan Ave as there is traffic heading east on 3rd street that will also stop at the intersection of E. Main and 3rd. A stop bar will also require drivers wanting to turn onto Duncan from East Main traveling west to stop before turning left onto Duncan.

Two-way Traffic Update: New Road Markings

In case you have not noticed, changes for upcoming 2 way traffic on 3rd Street are happening now! Crews are working to grind all old lines and traffic arrows as well as painting new lines for implementation of 2 way traffic. Some of the changes are shown here: At the “Y” intersection of 3rd St, Main St and Duncan Ave, Route 99 coming into town now has arrows in the right lane to indicate bearing that direction for 3rd Street, as well as the left lane now will require a Stop for the left turn onto Duncan Ave. There is also a Stop sign at that intersection coming from East Main Street toward Rt 99 in place. Please follow the new signage. Notice of implantation of 2 way traffic on 3rd Street will occur early next week.

Reminder: Monday, February 27, 2023, the left lane on 3rd street will be closed off so traffic traveling west will only be able to travel in the right lane. One lane travel will continue to the intersection of 3rd and Washington. At the intersection of 3rd and Washington, the left turn lane will not be accessible and motorists wishing to turn left will do so from the right/ straight through the lane. The intersection at Washington and 3rd is a four way stop intersection. Please adhere to the stop requirement.

Changes in Trash Service Effective January 1, 2023

Starting in November 2021, the Council and Town staff have communicated to the PSA their concerns regarding service to our residents, particularly the long delays in the removal of bulk items and customer complaint calls. These service issues and the Town having to respond to these issues led the Town Manager to notify the PSA in January 2022 that the Town would discontinue billing for PSA trash collection on June, 1, 2022, making it clear to residents the agency responsible for trash collection.

This has been a challenging week for everyone, with the beginning of a new year and a new trash service for residents of the Town. It has been a learning experience for all of us as something new always is, and not everything happened as was planned. GFL has worked hard to put the appropriate containers in the correct locations, but it was not always executed correctly the first time. This has meant that some containers were delivered after the original planned service day.
