One thing we often take for granted in our communities are the many wonderful medical and educational professionals who dedicate their lives to improving the lives of families throughout the New River Valley. Many of these professionals often have their own tried and true approaches to mental and physical health, but how would you go about sharing your knowledge on a subject with your professional peers? That’s where The Community Foundation for the New River Valley comes in to play.

One of the strengths of the CFNRV is their willingness to support both short and long term initiatives help connect individuals and groups who are working toward common goals. The CFNRV often puts these strategies into practice by hosting educational events around the New River Valley where professionals can meet with their peers to discuss their approach to those mental and physical health issues.

Along with these informational local meetings, the CFNRV also recognizes the importance of training individuals in leadership skills, especially in the nonprofit arena. In addition to training people who wish to become NPO leaders in the future, they also provide a wealth of resources for current leaders, often employing innovative ideas and practices from outside our region, as well as within.

They do much more than train people in the art of leadership though. After a quick look through their website, you will find that they offer grants and scholarships to exceptional individuals and organizations in the New River Valley. While they only award one grant per year, their scholarship program is quite robust, managing more than 35 different scholarship funds.

The CFNRV probably wouldn’t be where they are today without their extensive list of initiatives and partnerships. Through their many initiatives, they are able to directly affect many local communities and leasers by acting as a catalyst for development. For example, the GiveBigNRV Initiative allows those interested to donate to nonprofit organizations throughout our region, while their partnership with Alliance for Better Childcare Strategies is focused on strengthening early child care and infrastructure in our communities.

The CFNRV will be hosting one of their informational events in Pulaski this Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. If you’re an early childhood teacher, counselor, physician, or social service provider and you’ve been looking for new ways to impact families in Pulaski through various physical and mental health programs, this event will be a great opportunity to meet some of your peers to share beneficial ideas with each other. And even if you don’t fall into one of those categories, this event is still a great opportunity to learn new ways to positively impact our community. You can find more info on this event here
